William S. Burroughs (1914-1997) was an American experimental novelist, "beat" poet, and cultural icon.
The William S. Burroughs Letter consists of a single item in Burroughs' hand and signed by him, on the letterhead of the Restaurant Arc-en-ciel, Paris. The letter is a humorous sketch about a restaurant ("Chez Robert") that serves "transcendental cuisine" -- the food becomes more and more appalling but the diners are too intimidated by its reputation to object.
