The collection consists of a single sheet, a petition signed by 24 inhabitants of Geddes directed "To the Commissioner of the land office of the State of New York." The petition alleges that one Samuel Brewster obtained land in order "to erect coarse salt works upon" it, but that he has instead fenced it and is using it as farmland. The petitioners request that the land be reassigned to Robert Gere who will fulfill the original intended purpose and build the salt works. The petition is dated Geddes, Feb 9, 1841.
