Howard Hinsdale Bell (1924-2011) graduated Magna Cum Laude from Syracuse University in 1946 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.
While at Syracuse, Bell was an active member of Pi Sigma Rho, the political science honorary, and Tau Theta Upsilon, the senior men's honorary. He was co-chairman of Moving-Up ceremonies in 1946, on Junior Executive Committee, and chairman of protest board of elections. Bell was also President of Men's Student Government (M.S.G.), and worked for the Post Standard for two years. A profile in the 1946 Onondagan notes that he "like[d] nothing better than a good bridge game or a hot argument."
Bell went on to earn his law degree from Stanford University in 1950, and joined the California State Bar in 1951. He practiced business and real estate law in the California Bay Area for many years, and was a founding partner of Bell, Rosenberg & Hughes firm. He was a trustee of the California State Parks Foundation, the Thomas J. Long Foundation, and the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation.
