Eugene H. Czajkoski (d. 2007), dean and professor emeritus of Florida State University’s School of Criminology, was from Brooklyn, New York and was a class of 1948 alumnus of Syracuse University. Czajkoski was a member of the Men’s Glee Club, the Men’s Student Government (MSG) and Chapel while at Syracuse University.
In 1964 he received his doctorate in social administration (criminal justice) from New York University, and in 1966 Czajkoski became a faculty member at Florida State University. He was named chairman of Florida State University’s department of criminology and then became founding dean of the School of Criminology in 1974. He remained dean of the school until 1986 -- the following year he was awarded dean emeritus and professor emeritus status. A scholarship fund exists at the school in his and his wife Rosalind’s names.
In addition to his active involvement in his professional field and at Florida State University, Czajkoski helped create DISC Village (a drug treatment center) and was on its board of directors for 35 years. He also served as commissioner on the Florida Supreme Court Nominating Commission, was a consultant for the National Institute of Justice, was chairman of the Governor's Council on Criminal Justice and held various other positions within the Governor's office.
Czajkoski was also an Army veteran of the Korean War.
The Eugene H. Czajkoski Collection consists of a hand-painted figurine of Czajkoski, his Syracuse University 1948 class ring, his chemistry and physics coursework and Czajkoski’s 1947-1948 men’s student activities book. An invitation to the 2009 dedication of the Eugene Czajkoski Conference Room and Library at the Florida State University College of Criminology and Criminal Justice is also included.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
