Ian Dougill (b. 1933) attended the State University of New York College of Forestry at Syracuse University in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He was a member of the Syracuse University Outing Club, which was founded in 1935 with the aim of enabling students to explore the outdoors across Upstate New York. Dougill went on to obtain a master's degree in landscape architecture from the University of California Berkeley in 1962.
The Ian Dougill Drawing comprises a color drawing by Dougill of the Syracuse University Outing Club with a caption on the reverse side that reads partially: "[s]etting off to somewhere – Tug Hill Plateau, New York."
