Dr. Robert Loeffler (1922-2006) graduated from Syracuse University in 1948 with a bachelor's degree in botany. He began attending the University in 1941 but paused his studies from 1943 to 1946 to serve in the military during World War II as a medical aid. At the time of Loeffler's enrollment, the botany department was officially called the Department of Plant Sciences. It later merged with the Department of Zoology in 1970 to form the Department of Biology that exists at Syracuse University today. Loeffler earned his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin and went on to become a professor at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
The Robert Loeffler Papers contain class notes and study notecards for classes within the Department of Plant Sciences at Syracuse University, a bound copy of his undergraduate thesis, and meeting minutes for Club 25, his freshman housing. Additionally, there are drafts and correspondence related to a piece Loeffler wrote reminiscing on the department and his time as a student at the University for BIO@SU, the Department of Biology newsletter.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
