International Games Week 2024
November 7 – 13, 2024
In celebration of International Games Week, the Libraries is highlighting both our own resources as well as our partner on the 4th floor of Bird Library, Digital Scholarship Space.
Digital Scholarship Space (DSS) is a workshop, laboratory and classroom designed for the study and creation of digital artifacts and experiences. In addition to scheduled classes, the space has open hours each semester. Last year, there were 4 classes held in the DSS in the fall with a total of 2,197 visitors (both from classes and open hours), and there were 6 classes held in the space in the spring with a total of 513 visitors.
Check out the video about the DSS featuring graduate student lab manager Dylan Caskie G’25.
Interested in more information about the Libraries’ games? Check out our Games Research Guide. If your favorite game isn’t in our collection, you can submit a request by emailing colls@syr.edu or using the Suggest a Title form. Games can be borrowed up to 24 hours for undergraduates and 3 days for graduate and post-doctoral students.
Doing research on games? The Libraries have:
- An historic periodical collection in Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive (EIMA) 5: Video Gaming, which includes over 40 titles spanning the 1980s through 2020. Titles cover a variety of consoles/computers and include publications such as Computer & Video Games (1981-2004), PC Gamer (1994-2020) and Edge (1993-2020), and even EMIA’s Nintendo Power (1988 – 2006).
- We also have some current popular game magazines in Press Reader.
- Check out our collection of books on game design and gaming tips in O’Reilly for Higher Education.
- Read Syracuse University Professor Chris Hanson’s (College of Arts and Sciences) book Game Time (Indiana UP, 2018).
