The Faculty Fellowship allowed me to plan a class using comparative materials across collections in SCRC, pulling from the collections of Earl Browder of the U.S. Communist Party, documentary filmmaker Herbet Kline, artist Anna Huntington Hyatt, and cartoonist Bruce Russel in the collection. Students were able to experience the archives over an extended period of time, which allowed them to carefully consult and compare a variety of materials as well as revisit interesting documents. This fostered careful analysis of the documents and fantastic comparative projects. Students were very excited to present their research at the Undergraduate Research Fair with the understanding that SCRC is our lab for humanities research where ideas develop and change over the course of the semester.
