This image shows an upturned beam being formed in reinforcing steel at the roof skylight opening. Dowels were set in the composite concrete roof slab and will in turn be tied to the curved cage reinforcing of the upturned beam. Note the steel angles with steel studs attached in the foreground. These will be embedded at an edge condition of the slab that calls for additional protection. It is also used as a means of providing a surface to weld a piece of equipment to, or facilitate a connecting structure, a precast concrete attachment, or as a bearing surface to distribute a loading condition.
