In close relationship with the homes passed, we see here the same, squat four-columned colonnade, the same use of flush tlapboar de and entablature, the same attic window, carried to the Ionic order. But this structure was no transposition of the Doric facade for in almost perfect and amazing approximation, it is Plate III, Volume II of Stuart and Revett, an exact measured drawing of the Temple on the Illisus come to life.* Nowhere else in Syracuse, with the exception of the Kennedy house, will a more perfect Greek temple be found; this in opposition to the many Greek Revival structures. Unfortunately, the twentieth century enclosed porch destroys much in forcing the horizontal, but it does not obscure the perfect Ionic bases or the correctly expanded columns.
As with all revival structures, despite their perfection, there are here inconsistencies. Primary interest rests with the stopping of the entablature at the side of the colonnade which withdraws the completely encircling feature so prominent thus far. The circular window in the pediment, although remodeled from a square opening, recalls our attention to many of the past examples - Adam ovals and circular openings. The Revivitists, willing to suffer inconvienences of the temple dwelling, quite apparently did not hesitate when it came to any basically essential features such as attic ventilation.
Although again built on the off-center plan, this home-in completely symbolizing Greek architecture, sports no wing, so typical of the Greek Revival.
