Address: 802 East Fayette Street

With the pilasters of the Ford house extended to a full colonnade, the results would closely approximate this amazing little structure of which practically nothing, is known. Occuppying a position singularly its own, as far as Syracuse and extant examples are concerned, it is a perfect example of the "Carpenter's classic" with any Greek aura achieved through the simplest means possible. Despite this cruder aspect, however, the style is directly traceable to the Frontispiece of Lafeverse 1845 edition which proposes the "Design for a Country Villa", (see plate XII, page 222) of which our building is an accurate, though simpler, copy.

Although possibly built at-an earlier period, we are aware of changing factors at work with the square columns and oversimplified capitals especially signalling a new phase. Notice too, that the entire entablet-iire does not carry around the house.

There are features of refinement, however, common to even the Fayette Park aristocracy down the street. The doorway with overhanging lintel is unusually fine and the flush clapboards deserve commendation. The dormers are surely much later. With a striking affinity for the modern functionalistic era, this small home of yesterday's little man has an appeal of its own unsurpassed by even the Leavenworth house.
