Biographical History

Addison Irving Bacheller (1859-1950) was an American journalist and writer, and founder of the Bacheller Syndicate, the first modern newspaper syndicate in the United States. His novels, many of which were best-sellers, include The Master of Silence (1892), Still House of O'Darrow (1894), Eben Holden (1900), The Light in the Clearing (1917), and A Man for the Ages (1920).

Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Irving Bacheller Collection consists of memorabilia relating to a luncheon Bacheller attended at New York's Century Association in 1944. The collection contains a brief poem in Bacheller's hand which was his toast at the luncheon, and a typed sheet from an unknown person giving the story behind the toast. The collection also includes a photograph dated 1914 signed by Bacheller and his souvenir printed and slip-cased menu from the luncheon.
