Biography
Timothy Michael Cardwell (1967-1988) was among the 270 victims of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland on December 21, 1988. A junior in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts, Tim had previously graduated from Keystone Junior College. He was an Army ROTC Scholarship winner, a volunteer in the ROTC Ranger program, and a sergeant in the 403rd Army Reserve National Guard at Syracuse. He had completed the Army ROTC Camp Challenge program at Fort Knox in Kentucky in 1987 and his Army Airborne Training at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1988 where he received his paratrooper wings. He was posthumously awarded the Army Commendation Medal.
Scope and Content Note
The Timothy Michael Cardwell Collection contains Photographs and Printed Materials . The photographs provide a glimpse into Tim's semester in London in the fall of 1988. These photographs were donated by Thomas Clegg, a friend of Tim's who spent some time in London with Tim during that semester. The printed material series contains a book titled My 39 ½ Years in the U.S. Army Reserve: January 1964-July 2003 by Douglas S. McLaughlin Sgt. 1st Class, U.S. Army Reserve (Retired) that contains a section relating to the funeral for Tim.
