William (Bill) Alan Daniels was born on March 28, 1948. Bill received a B.S. in chemistry from Emory University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Penn State. He was a Group Leader in Process Development at American Cyanamid Company in Plainsboro, New Jersey, and had traveled to Newcastle-upon-Tyne on December 18 with colleagues. Bill, who lived with his family in Belle Mead, New Jersey, was survived by his wife Kathy; three children, Erin, Brice, and Melanie; his parents, Jean and Gerald; his brother, Scott; and his sister, Susan Hendricks.
The William Alan Daniels Family Collection contains 6 series: Clippings, Correspondence, Personal Objects, Photographs, Printed Materials, and Subject Files.
Clippings: are organized chronologically where possible, but some are undated. The over-sized clippings in Box 2 are not housed chronologically, but are kept together due to size. These items are mainly cover stories about Pan Am 103.
Correspondence: this series included 40th birthday cards sent to Bill Daniels in 1988. They also include many folders of condolence cards sent to his family after his death. The rest of the series is organized by correspondent and features letters to multiple legislators from Kathy Daniels, following the bombing.
Personal Objects: this series contains two subseries for model trains and wood working tools belonging to Bill Daniels. These items are not available to researchers without approval from the Archivist, but photographs of each item are available in the inventory of this finding aid. Neither of these subseries contains all of the model trains or tools owned by Bill, but only a sample of each.
Photographs: contains only a few photographs of Bill Daniels at an American Cyanamid Corporation event. Another photo, dated to 2010, features members of the Daniels-Tedeschi family (Kathy Daniels re-married Russ Tedeschi), at the wedding of Chris Tedeschi and Sonia Stratis, who was the daughter of Pan Am 103 victim Elia Stratis.
Printed Materials: this series contains the programs from Bill Daniel's memorial services, as well as memorial cards printed with his obituary and cards printed for masses held in his memory. Also of note in this series is a diagram of the seat lay out of Pan American World Airways 747 jumbo jets.
Subject Files: most notable in this series is the notebook kept by Kathy Daniels for taking phone messages after the bombing. Also included is a list of aviation security measures implemented in the months following the bombing of Pan Am 103.

The wood working tools and model trains held in this collection are not available to researchers. Access to these items is granted by the Archivist on a case by case basis. Photographs of the items are included in the inventory of this finding aid.
