Biography

Frances Forde Plude was a professor in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University from 1988 to 1994. Plude received a doctorate from Harvard University, and went to MIT to study satellite communications. While working at Syracuse University she was involved with research for the book The Media and Disasters: Pan Am 103.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of materials related to the research and creation of the book The Media and Disasters: Pan Am 103, authored by Joan Deppa with Maria Russell, Dona Hayes, and Elizabeth Flocke. Materials are dated 1972 to 1994. Types of materials in this collection include, newspapers, memos, correspondence, notes, forms, reports, questionnaires, and journal articles. The content primarily focuses on the research process including research files, media coverage of other disasters, research questionnaires and forms, correspondence between key people involved in the process, and meeting notes.
