Dedicated in 1930, Hendricks Chapel was built to serve all faiths and houses several religious organizations at Syracuse University. A gift from Senator Francis Hendricks in honor of his wife Eliza, the Chapel occupies a central place on the Syracuse University campus, directly off the Kenneth A. Shaw Quadrangle. Hendricks Chapel hosts both faith-based and non-faith-based services, the Hendricks Chapel Choir, special programs, the student-run People's Place coffee shop, and initiatives including a food pantry, disaster relief support, and stress reduction and mediation sessions. The Chapel is home to several chaplaincies and religious groups, including the Baptist Campus Ministry, Buddhist Chaplaincy, Islamic Chaplaincy at Syracuse University, United Methodist Ecumenical Campus Ministry, and the Historically Black Church collaborative ministry of traditionally African American churches in Syracuse.
The Hendricks Chapel Records spans from 1936 to 1999 and consists of materials related to the Chapel's operations. The collection includes sermons, memorial service materials, guest speaker files, lectures, audio reels, fabric banners and other materials related to programs, events, committees, and organizations, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee and Muslim Life at Syracuse University.
