Finding aid created by: Anna Smallwood
Date: 2016

Historical Note

The Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), renamed the D'Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families in 2022, was founded in 2011 as a partnership between Syracuse University and JPMorgan Chase & Co. The IVMF is the first of its kind not only in the education field, but in the nation. Founded to serve veterans and military families, the IVMF provides educational opportunities, programs, and resources for post-service life. Among the programs that the IVMF offers are the Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) and Operation Boots to Business: From Service to Startup. Additionally, the IVMF conducts research that is important to policy issues and the lives of veterans and their families. In 2020 the IVMF moved into the Daniel and Gayle D'Aniello Building, home to the National Veterans Resource Center (NVRC), a state-of-the-art facility serving as the center of veteran life on Syracuse University's campus. This collaborative space facilitates academic research and actionable programming, with the express purpose of advancing the social and economic concerns of veterans and their families. The construction of the NVRC was made possible in part due to a generous gift from U.S. Navy veteran and Life Trustee Daniel D'Aniello '68 and his wife Gayle.

Scope and Content Note

The Institute for Veterans and Military Families Records contain brochures, annual reports, and research and program publications from its opening in 2011 until 2018.
