Richard Doddridge Blackmore (1825-1900) was an English poet, novelist and translator. Though he initially trained as a lawyer, Blackmore retired due to poor health and worked instead as an educator, a gardener and a writer. His best known works include Lorna Doone: a romance of Exmoor and The Maid of Sker. A large portion of his work was written under the pseudonym "Melanter."
The Richard Doddridge Blackmore Letters consists of a two-page holograph letter signed by Blackmore, and a typewritten letter from the publisher Burrows Brothers Company to H. P. McIntosh regarding a signed copy of Blackmore's Fringilla: some tales in verse. Included with this letter is a handwritten enclosure of Blackmore's suggestions for the Fringilla title page.
