Johann Lorenz von Mosheim (1693-1755) was a German Lutheran church historian. Among his works are De rebus christianorum ante Constantinum commentarii (1753). He is also credited with with writing the two-volume An Ecclesiastical History, From The Birth of Christ to the Beginning of the Eighteenth Century: in which The Rise, Progress And Variation of Church Power Are Considered In Their Connection With the State Of Learning And Philosophy, and The Political History of Europe During that Period. The title page lists the author as John Lawrence Mosheim, D.D., Chancellor of the University of Göttingen.
Nothing is known of the author of this volume of notes on Moshiem's work.
Notes on Mosheim's Ecclesiastical History consists of one handwritten volume, begun in Nov 1815. The volume consists of two parts. The first part contains a few dated entries and undated poems, all of which are personal reflections on religious topics or sermons heard. It is unclear whether the poems are original by the writer, or copies of existing poems.
The second section, which begins about two-thirds of the way through the volume, continues to the end, and then picks up again in the middle of the volume, contains notes on Johann Lorenz von Mosheim's An Ecclesiastical History, From The Birth of Christ to the Beginning of the Eighteenth Century. The notes are summary in nature rather than critical or analytical.
