Thomas Brackett Reed (1839-1902) of Portland, Cumberland County, Maine, was a Republican lawyer, member of the Maine state legislature (1868-1870) and state attorney general (1870-1872). He served more than twenty years (1877-1899) in the U.S. House of Representatives, during which he was Speaker of the House twice and was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President (1896).
The Thomas B. Reed Correspondence consists of eleven letters from the United States Congressman to various individuals. Recipients include E. R. "Ned" Spear and W. O. Fuller, among others. The letters are of a general nature; several relate to invitations to write or speak.
