Nothing is known of the author of these volumes other than what can be gleaned from the collection. It is unclear why the volumes were given the title "Seymour of Montville." Although the surname "Seymour" does appear, as on one sheet headed "The Estate of Mary Seymour Late of Hartford," and the word "Montville" appears on the inside front cover, there is no clear evidence that these are associate with the author of the volumes. The location is unknown; the town of Hartford is mentioned on several pages but no state, province or country is given.
The Seymour of Montville Account Books consists of two volumes documenting various business transactions, including fees for farming activities such as hauling and plowing.
