Biographical History

Sally Roesch Wagner (1942-2025) was an American author, activist, lecturer and historian. She founded the Women's Studies Program at California State University, Sacramento, and taught there for many years. After receiving a grant to study suffragist Matilda Joslyn Gage, Wagner became very interested in Gage's work and legacy; she eventually bought a home that once belonged to Gage, and turned it into the Matilda Joslyn Gage Center in Syracuse, New York. Beginning in 1997 she was a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Syracuse University, where she taught courses on the history of women's suffrage, Haudenosaunee women's history, and other social justice and equal rights movements.
