Bayard Bigelow, Maude Miller Bigelow and their daughter Jeanne Bigelow were all students at Syracuse University. Bayard Bigelow (d. 1955) attended the University from approximately 1907 to 1909 and studied engineering in the College of Liberal Arts. Bayard was an active member of the University community. He was a member of the debate club and Gamma Psi Chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity, and he was the first vice president of the Syracuse University Press Club. Maude Miller (d. 1968) attended Syracuse University at the same time and studied in the College of Fine Arts. Maude frequently attended recitals hosted by the College of Fine Arts and plays put on by the Oneonta Theatre. She and Bayard later married.
Jeanne Bigelow (b. 1924), daughter of Bayard and Maude Bigelow, attended Syracuse University’s College of Home Economics from 1942 to 1943. While attending the University, Jeanne lived in French Cottage and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta women's fraternity, located at 709 Comstock Avenue.
The Bigelow Family Papers comprise a scrapbook containing correspondence, clippings, printed ephemera, course materials, and photographs documenting the experiences of Syracuse University students Bayard and Maude Bigelow from 1907 to 1909. The collection also includes photographs and correspondence documenting Jeanne Bigelow's student experience at Syracuse University from 1942 to 1943.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
