William Howard Card (1926-2013) was a professor emeritus of electrical engineering at Syracuse University. Card received his bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto in 1949, followed by a master's from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1955, and finally his PhD from Syracuse University in 1961. While a PhD student in 1958, Card began a teaching career at Syracuse University that would continue until his retirement in 1993. He was an active member of the College of Engineering, heading various committees and mentoring graduate students throughout his career.
The W. Howard Card Papers comprises three series related to Card's work in the field of electrical engineering and teaching at Syracuse University. His research included energy efficiency in homes and early environmental research into alternative energy sources, namely solar power.
The Research series contains notebooks, laboratory notes, and general research notes.
The Teaching series contains course materials, such as lesson plans, transparent projector sheets, and worksheets, both blank and with answer keys.
The Writings series primarily contains his writings and feasibility studies concerning alternative energy sources.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
