Biography

Fred Douglass Cribb (1880-1969) was a lawyer, judge, and alumnus of Syracuse University from Canandaigua, New York. He graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1905 and a Bachelor of Law degree in 1907. During his time as a student at the University, he was a member of the social fraternity Phi Kappa Psi, and Phi Delta Phi, an honorary law fraternity. He was also a member of the Class Executive Committee, the Onondagan Debating Society, the English Club, and the Historical Association. Upon graduating, Cribb returned to Canandaigua to practice law. He became the village attorney in 1912, and was the author of Canandaigua's city charter the following year. He served as the city attorney until 1935, when he was elected Ontario County Surrogate Judge. In 1940, he was elected Justice of the Supreme Court, Seventh Judicial District, a position he held until his retirement in 1950.
