Cora Foster (1899-1970), known primarily by her middle name, Eveleen, was a student at Syracuse University and graduated in 1920 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts. While a student, Foster was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, the Classical Club, the Historical Association, the Women’s Glee Club and the Patriotic Club, a student organization that sewed garments and made knitted items for soldiers fighting overseas in World War I. Foster was also part of the Silver Bay Club, members of which served as delegates to Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Student Conferences held in Silver Bay, New York. After graduating, Foster moved to Greenwich, New York and became a homemaker.
The Eveleen Foster Scrapbook contains materials documenting Foster’s time as a student at Syracuse University. These include photographs of students, events, and traditions such as commencement, as well as programs, ticket stubs, dance cards and other materials concerning student social life. Also included is a typescript of a 1917 University Christmas program and postcards and photographs from a 1918 YWCA Student Conference attended by Foster and other Syracuse University student delegates.
This collection contains materials that users may find objectionable due to racist imagery. The representations contained in this collection were conventional at the time of their creation, although no less harmful and inaccurate than they are today. The collection is preserved and presented for its historic and research value.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
