Arlington T. Hardell (1888-1966) was an American architect who graduated from Syracuse University in 1914.
Arlington Thomson Hardell was born on November 6, 1888 in Frankfort, New York. He matriculated at Syracuse University in 1910 as a student in the Department of Architecture in the College of Fine Arts and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1914. While a student at Syracuse University, he belonged to the Zeta Psi fraternity and was a member of the Architectural Association, serving as massier, or treasurer, his senior year.
Upon graduation Hardell began practicing as a professional architect. He worked on various projects in Florida, Georgia, and New York, including an addition to the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Hardell was a member of the American Institute of Architects from 1925 until his death, as well as a member of the Architectural League, the Zeta Psi Club of New York, and the Buccaneer’s Club, all located in New York City.
Arlington Hardell died on December 17, 1966.
The Arlington T. Hardell Papers contains materials from his high school years and his undergraduate education at Syracuse University. Three composition notebooks with handwritten notes comprise the high school material, and the college materials include handwritten notes and diagrams from three classes as well as a specification manual written by Hardell that appears to have been prepared as a final class project.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
Written permission must be obtained from the Syracuse University Archives and all relevant rights holders before publishing quotations, excerpts or images from any materials in this collection.
