Victor A. Hilarov (1889-1974) was an electrical engineer and an alumnus of Syracuse University. He was born in Kishinev, Russia (now Chișinău, Moldova), and emigrated to the United States in 1923. While he was a student at Syracuse University, he was a member of the engineering honorary society Tau Beta Pi, the mathematics honorary society Pi Beta Mu, the Liberal Club and the Cosmopolitan Club, a social organization that promoted dialogue and fellowship between domestic and international students. Hilarov graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University’s College of Applied Science in 1927. After graduating, he went on to work for the New York Edison Company and the General Electric X-Ray Corporation.
The Victor A. Hilarov Papers contain materials concerning his time as a student and alumnus of Syracuse University, which are divided into two series.
The Books series contains textbooks from Hilarov's courses both within the College of Applied Sciences and outside it, as well as a volume of poetry by A.E. Johnson.
The Student papers series contains Hilarov's academic materials from the College of Applied Sciences, including problem sets, notebooks, coursework, and projects. Also included is a notebook in which Hilarov recorded meeting minutes for the Cosmopolitan Club.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
