Marion R.W. Meyer (1921-2015) was a lifelong educator and served as professor, Assistant Dean of Syracuse University's School of Management, and charter member and president of the Association of Academic Affairs Administrators. Meyer was born in Auburn, Maine, and at age 20, began teaching at Pemetic High School in Southwest Harbor, Maine. She received her bachelor's degree in 1951 from the University of Maine and her master's degree from Syracuse University in 1955. While earning her degree, Meyer was a member of Syracuse University's Student Dean Program. She would later become an advisor in this same program. She began her career at Syracuse University as an instructor in office administration. Two years later, she became instructor in business writing and counselor to undergraduate students in the School of Management. Meyer became assistant dean in the School of Management in 1972 and director of Undergraduate Student Academic Affairs in the School of Management in 1977 before retiring from Syracuse University in 1984. Meyer married John Austin Meyer, professor of Nuclear and Radiation Chemistry at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF). The couple shared a love of travel which led them to explore all 50 states throughout the nation.
The Marion R.W. Meyer Papers include annual reports, plaques and certificates, regional and national conference files, reunion planning materials, photographs, personal correspondence, and scrapbooks. There are also files and audio recordings related to the Association of Academic Affairs Administrators and the Student Dean Program, Ganders lecture series documentation spanning from 1989 to 2006, and materials documenting her many trips across the United States after retirement. The collection also contains personal materials of her husband, John Meyer, and files related to his involvement with Beta Gamma Sigma.
