The Sigma Nu Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta was founded at Syracuse University in May of 1901. Known as the Syracuse Fiji, or Phi Gam, the fraternity resided at 732 Comstock Avenue for over 60 years. The house on Comstock Avenue suffered from an electrical fire in 1928 and a boiler fire in 1948. The fraternity eventually moved out of the house when Syracuse University wanted the property to build a parking lot for the Life Sciences Complex. The house was torn down after the University gave 300 Euclid Avenue to the fraternity in exchange for 732 Comstock Avenue. They currently reside at 727 Comstock Avenue.
The Phi Gamma Delta (Syracuse University Chapter) Collection spans from 1913 to 1956 and contains materials related to its members and activities. Included are two scrapbooks with clippings and photographs regarding the fraternity and its members, publications like The Phi Gamma Delta, dance cards, as well as event programs.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
