Josephine Weiler Snyder (d. 1993) attended Syracuse University from 1925-1929, where she majored in Business Administration. She was heavily involved in activities and organizations during her college years. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Silver Bay Club, Young Women’s Christian Association, Women’s Congress, Women’s Athletic Association, as well as serving as President of the Sorority Group, and Office Manager of the Onondagan. As for sports, she was involved with field hockey, basketball, baseball, tennis, swimming, rifle team, track, and lacrosse. Snyder married Earl V. Snyder in 1930, and they subsequently lived in Rochester, New York, and later Tucson, Arizona. Upon her death, the Snyder estate bequeathed 1.8 million dollars to Syracuse University’s School of Management to establish the Earl V. Snyder Innovation Management Center.
This collection consists of materials dated from 1956 to 1966, as well as materials circa 1925 to 1929. Materials include a variety of memorabilia items from Josephine Snyder’s time at Syracuse University and items she received after graduating. There are a number of pins, including ones from organizations she was involved in such as Alpha Chi Omega and the Young Women’s Christian Association. The memorabilia also includes a ring from her time at Syracuse University. There are also eight engagement calendars she received after graduation for contributing to the Alumni Fund. Notably, she actively used the engagement calendars she received to record meetings, appointments, and visits she made.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
