Robert S. Van Keuren (1917-1976) was an American architect and instructor at Syracuse University. He was born on October 9, 1917 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He earned his bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Minnesota. Although he did not earn a graduate degree, Van Keuren did graduate work at several universities. From 1937 until his death, Van Keuren worked in the field of architecture. He started his career at Syracuse University as a teaching assistant in 1957 and three years later became an instructor. While in Syracuse, Van Keuren was a partner at Witt and Van Keuren, Architect and Engineer Associates of Gouverneur and Syracuse, New York.
During his professional career, Van Keuren worked on numerous architecture plans and designs, many of which were local projects. He did a lot of work toward the planning of the facilities for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, and Van Keuren also did a significant amount of designs for office buildings and additions for the New York Telephone Company. During his professional career, Van Keuren was a member of the American Institute of Architects and the New York State Association of Architects. He served on the board of directors of the Pioneer Activity Center Inc. of Syracuse and was a Commander of the local Civilian Air Patrol.
The Robert S. Van Keuren Papers consist of architectural and construction drawings, Mylar overlays and negatives related to his various building projects.
