Biographical History

John Hancock (1737-1793) was a merchant, statesman, and leader during the American Revolution. He served as president of the Second Continental Congress (1775–77, 1785–86) and Governor of Massachusetts (1780–85, 1787–93). He was also famous for his large signature on the Declaration of Independence.


Scope and Contents of the Collection

The John Hancock Letter is dated Boston 15 Feb 1770 and addressed to Richard Laws, Esq. of New London, Connecticut. In the letter, Hancock discusses various financial matters Laws was involved in handling.
