Historical Note

Pan Am Flight 103 was destroyed by a terrorist bomb on December 21, 1988. Onboard the plane were 35 students studying abroad with Syracuse University. A total of 270 individuals died in the skies and on the ground at Lockerbie, Scotland as a result of the bombing. Since that date anniversaries have been commemorated at various locations from the village of Lockerbie to Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. Each year during Remembrance Week, Syracuse University honors the 270 people killed. Particular attention is paid to milestone anniversaries every five years.

Scope and Content Note

The Pan Am 103 Anniversaries Collection contains series for the 10th Anniversary, 15th Anniversary, 20th Anniversary, 25th Anniversary, and 30th Anniversary of the disaster. Series each contain a variety of materials including clippings, committee records, correspondence, memorabilia, printed materials and subject files.

Restrictions

Access Restrictions:

School, college and department records are restricted to the office of origin for 30 years. Requests to use restricted records must be obtained in writing from the office of origin.

Use Restrictions:

Written permission must be obtained from the Pan Am Flight 103 Archives and all relevant rights holders before publishing quotations, excerpts or images from any materials in this collection.
