Derek H. Rayner was an employee of British Airways in the 1970s and 1980s and was involved in the process of victim identification and informing the next-of-kin following the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland on December 21, 1988. In addition to working in the Finance Department of British Airways, Rayner volunteered with the Emergency Procedures Information Centre (EPIC) in the Disaster Management Department. In the event of any incidents or accidents on a British Airways aircraft, EPIC provided a phone number that families and friends could use to confirm whether their loved one was a passenger on board. In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, Rayner and other employees worked on behalf of Pan Am to answer calls from friends and family of the victims.
The Derek H. Rayner Papers consists of a written personal account of his service in the aftermath of the Pan Am Flight 103 disaster.
