Historical Note

Relevant voices may be found in, but are not limited to, family and friends of the victims, alumni who studied abroad in London through Syracuse University during the fall 1988 semester, former Remembrance and Lockerbie Scholars, faculty and staff of Syracuse University, members of the Lockerbie community, and those involved with the aftermath of the tragedy. These stories may include memories of the 270 people who lost their lives in the bombing, of the days immediately following the disaster, of the effect the bombing had on individuals, local communities and nations, and how Pan Am 103 has shaped the world we live in today. The project also includes interviews conducted in 2008 by OrangeTV network as part of the 20th Anniversary commemoration on campus.


Scope and Content Note

The Pan Am 103 Story Archives Collection contains narratives from those who have personal knowledge of Pan Am Flight 103. The collection has been divided into the following series:

Oral Histories contains audiovisual materials collected from those who have personal knowledge of Pan Am Flight 103. This series includes interviews conducted in 2008 by OrangeTV network as part of the 20th Anniversary commemoration on campus, and interviews conducted by Archives staff. This series is organized alphabetically by name (last, first) of the interviewee.

Written Narratives includes the written accounts collected from those who have personal knowledge of Pan Am Flight 103. This series is organized alphabetically by name (last, first) of the interviewee.

Acquisition Information

The Archives began The Pan Am Flight 103 Story Archives Collection in 2013 as part of the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. The Archives acquired the OrangeTV interviews in 2010 from the general manager at the Orange Television Network.

Processing Information

Materials were housed in acid-free boxes and relabeled. Each disc was stored in an individual plastic case. Clips were made available to the public via The Pan Am 103 Archives YouTube account.


Arrangement

Arranged by type of interview (oral or written) then alphabetically by name (last, first) of the interviewee. Oral histories are organized in project batches (2008 OrangeTV interviews / Archives 2013, 2014).
