It was created to further geographic education and research on Latin America. CLAG publishes a newsletter, Communication, and a journal, Journal of Latin American Geography, and convenes at international conferences.

Scope and Content Note

The Conference of Latin Americanist Geographers (CLAG) Records comprise correspondence, conference materials, media, meeting minutes, and various administrative files. The collection also contains the files of current and past executive directors of CLAG. The records are arranged into eight series. There are seven general series (General files, Conferences, The Golfito experience, Media, Board, Communication, and Correspondence) followed by the papers of William E. Doolittle, executive director of the organization.

The General files series contains administrative materials like founding documents, membership records, and funding applications. Additionally, there are materials for various CLAG committees, general meetings, and publications.

Conferences contains planning documents, programs, schedules, and proceedings for the conferences CLAG has organized.

Media contains audiovisual recordings of sessions, discussions, and other meetings related to CLAG conferences and events.

The Board series contains board meeting minutes, member nominees, and executive committee memorandums.

Communication contains issues of the CLAG newsletter Communication from March 1971 to spring 1992.

Correspondence contains professional correspondence between member and non-member geographers, as well as email printouts.
