Fred Douglass Cribb (1880-1969) was a lawyer, judge, and alumnus of Syracuse University from Canandaigua, New York. He graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1905 and a Bachelor of Law degree in 1907. During his time as a student at the University, he was a member of the social fraternity Phi Kappa Psi, and Phi Delta Phi, an honorary law fraternity. He was also a member of the Class Executive Committee, the Onondagan Debating Society, the English Club, and the Historical Association. Upon graduating, Cribb returned to Canandaigua to practice law. He became the village attorney in 1912, and was the author of Canandaigua's city charter the following year. He served as the city attorney until 1935, when he was elected Ontario County Surrogate Judge. In 1940, he was elected Justice of the Supreme Court, Seventh Judicial District, a position he held until his retirement in 1950.
The Fred D. Cribb Papers contain materials collected during Cribb's time as a student and alumnus of Syracuse University. These include group photographs of the class of 1907, photographs of student clubs and societies, a catalog from the Fine Arts Fakirs Society, a copy of the honorary law fraternity Phi Delta Phi's constitution, and a calendar with notes from Cribb on his time as a student.
This collection contains materials that users may find objectionable due to racist language and imagery. The language and imagery contained in this collection were conventional at the time of their creation, although no less harmful and inaccurate than they are today. The collection is preserved and presented for its historic and research value.
