Historical Note

The Syracuse University Graduate Student Organization [GSO] was established at Syracuse University in 1968. It is comprised of graduate student representatives, some of whom serve as representatives in the larger University Senate. Within the GSO are multiple committees including: Academic Resources and Affairs, Families, Diversity, Finance, Graduate Employment Issues, Grants, Civic Engagement, Outreach, and Student Life. Taskforces are also formed within the GSO occasionally, one such example is the Sesquicentennial Taskforce formed in August of 2019. The GSO, with the undergraduate Student Association, fund the Student Legal Services program which offers free legal counsel to students. Additionally, the GSO offers funding for special programming and events as well as travel and research grant funding. The GSO also partners with career services, the early education and childcare center, the Bernice M. Wright nursery school, the future professoriate program, and the Slutzker Center for International Services. The GSO is committed to maintaining Syracuse University as a first-rate institution for graduate education in all aspects of graduate student life.
