Louis Kriesberg (b. 1926) is Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Maxwell Professor Emeritus of Social Conflict Studies in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Kriesberg received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1953. He taught at Syracuse University from 1967 to 1997, working as a professor of sociology and a Maxwell professor of social conflict studies. During his time at the University, Kriesberg specialized in world conflicts, conflict resolution, and race relations. He also became the founding director of The Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (PARCC), previously known as the Program on the Analysis and Resolution of Conflicts, (1986-1994), published over 160 book chapter and articles, and received countless awards and honors.
The Louis Kriesberg Papers contain printed materials, correspondence, media and other files related to his work in sociology, world conflicts, and conflict resolution. There are records related to Kriesberg’s work as the founding director of The Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration, as well as materials about the American Sociological Association, Eastern Sociology Society, and The Society for the Study of Social Problems.
Audiovisual materials comprise VHS tapes that have been processed.
