Jay Howard Mengle (1923-2022) was a student veteran in the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1949. He was initiated into the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity in 1947. He was a World War II veteran, flying in 35 combat missions for a total of 290 combat hours. Notable campaigns he participated in include Normandy, Northern France, and Air Offensive Europe.
The Jay Howard Mengle Papers contain materials dating from 1945 to 1949. The collection consists of photographs and documents related to his time as a student at Syracuse University, including Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity materials, two Syracuse University student activities ticket books, his diploma and transcript, and the Syracuse University 90th Commencement Program.
