The NAACP Syracuse University Unit is a chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) that was established at the University in 1985. It was the first student chapter of the NAACP in central New York. The chapter's main initiatives have been to promote diversity on the Syracuse University campus, increase NAACP membership, and encourage awareness about social justice and political activism. The chapter has hosted various banquets, forums, and peaceful protests to generate dialogue about diversity on campus, police brutality, and voter registration.
The NAACP Syracuse University Unit Collection contains digital files on a USB flash drive, a program from the Blacktivism Conference, a "say no to the cuts" event flyer, and one sign. The digital files include copies of the Blacktivism Conference program and images from the conference's various events, which took place in 2015. While the event occured in 2015, the digital files were placed on the USB flash drive between 2015 and 2016. The sign is from the NAACP’s #itooamSU initiative and had been previously staked in the ground.
