Milton D. Raynor (1889-1974) was an alumnus of Syracuse University. Raynor earned an athletics scholarship to attend Syracuse University in 1910 and played catcher for the varsity baseball team for all four years of his college career. In addition to baseball, he also played on the freshman football team and was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Raynor worked to pay his own way through college, returning home to work for his father during summer breaks and playing baseball for extra money. He graduated with his bachelor's degree from the College of Applied Sciences in Mechanical Engineering in 1913. After graduating, he found work at an engineering firm and continued to play baseball, even trying out for the Boston Red Sox before an injury to his arm ended playing professionally. In 1917, Raynor was drafted to serve in World War I and was sent to France to do meteorology work for the Signal Corps. In 1919, he returned home and moved back to Long Island to work for his father's house painting business, which he took ownership of later in his life.
The Milton D. Raynor Papers span from 1910 to 1935, and are divided into three series:
The Athletics series contains a certificate given to Raynor upon receiving his "Block S" varsity letter, correspondence concerning baseball, a newspaper clipping that discusses Raynor's performance in a baseball game, and his baseball uniform.
The Coursework series comprises Raynor's course readings, notebooks, and technical drawings from the College of Applied Science.
The Printed materials series contains Syracuse University publications.
