Schultze Cottage was a three-story building, previously located at 906 University Place, which served as women’s housing at Syracuse University. A group of smaller houses known as Cottage Row housed many women students from the earliest days of Syracuse University until the 1970s. Schultze Cottage was named after William Schultze, Musical Director and Professor of History and Theory of Music at Syracuse University from 1877 to 1888. Schultze Cottage was one of several cottages and buildings demolished to build the Newhouse Communications Center I in the early 1960s.
The Schultze Cottage Scrapbooks include six scrapbooks, assembled by class year, depicting the lives and activities of the women living in Schultze Cottage from 1952 to 1961. The scrapbooks include correspondence, printed materials, newspaper clippings, photographs, and other ephemera. Notable events documented in the scrapbooks include Colgate Weekend, the Panhellenic Ball, the Cotton Bowl, Winter Weekend, and Step-Singing.
