Zeta Psi is a social college fraternity originally founded in 1847 at New York University. The Gamma Chapter of Zeta Psi was founded at Syracuse University in 1875 and became the fourth fraternity established at the University. The fraternity was originally headquartered at 805 University Avenue but later moved to 727 Comstock Avenue. Syracuse University's chapter of Zeta Psi had recurring periods of inactivity during its history, first from 1887 to 1905, then from 1973 to 1975, and again from 1993 to 1998. The Gamma Chapter of Zeta Psi was closed by the fraternity's national chapter in 2007, and as of 2025 remains dormant at Syracuse University. In 2022, The Syracuse University Association of Zeta Psi sold 727 Comstock Avenue to the University. The building was designated as a locally protected site in 2024 by the Syracuse City Common Council.
The Zeta Psi (Syracuse University Chapter) Collection includes directories, publications, pins, and typescripts detailing the history of the Gamma Chapter.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
