The image sequence (11-13) shows the installation of the main centrifugal chillers for the building. These along with the boilers and other large pieces of mechanical equipment, must be installed prior to the first floor slab closure assembly. Future equipment removal is possible through an areaway designed for that purpose but ease of installation during the open condition of the mechanical rooms in the substructure calls for early installation of this heavy equipment.

Image 12 shows the loose placement of the vibration eliminator mounts located on a service slab in the main chiller room.

Image 13 shows one of the main chillers being placed on the mounts. The mounts and slab allow for an adjustment of one or two inches in the horizontal plane. The chiller shall be attached to the mounts but the mounts shall not be attached to the floor until all associated piping and insulation is in place for the chilled water circuits. This procedure allows the equipment and piping to reach equilibrium prior to final attachment. This diminishes pipe fatigue over the operating life of the system, and insures maximum vibration isolation.
