image 18: Steel studs.
Image 18 shows light gauge cold formed steel studs which make up 95% of all the interior walls of the building. The ASTM Standard for these studs is A563 with a zinc coating ASTM A924. The gauge of the studs will vary with the slenderness ratio, span criteria, and loading condition. The interior studs shown here are 20 gauge. Note how the layout of studs at the floor an ceiling will allow for the gypsum board to span across the slab and girder assembly, assuring a plumb finished wall.
image 19: Penthouse framing.
Image 19 shows 16 ga, 8" steel studs being installed as an exterior wall assembly for the mechanical penthouses at the roof. Note the balloon framing, which allows for a cantilevered parapet condition with the studs welded to a pre-formed curved steel angle member at the penthouse roof upturned beam parapet.
