Section 16465 Busway
image 7: Bus Duct Riser.
The image shows how service, of a high voltage, is distributed vertically via a busway. The busway contains a duct which is a solid aluminum bar located within the vertical gray cove assembly. The bus duct is tapped at each floor and subsequently feeds into a step down transformer for further connection to a panel board and distribution circuits beyond. Electric closets with transformers in them generate heat year round. In many cases larger transformer rooms will be ventilated and/or air conditioned to prevent overheating, and as a consequence, a shutdown of electrical power.
