image 8: Cable Tray.
Located within the hung ceiling, and therefore accessible, is the low voltage wiring for telephone and computer circuits. The wire is not capable of supporting itself and because it is low voltage mass, dedication of many shielded wires may be ganged together in an open tray support. This "cable tray" travels down the main halls and feeds into the individual offices and laboratories. Upon passing through a fire rated wall, precautions are taken to insure the integrity of the fire separation should the wire and insulators in this gang assembly melt.
