Section 03310 Concrete
Work
image 10: Construction
joints.
The use of construction joints in large foundation structures requires that waterstops be placed at these construction joints. Image 10 shows a vertical synthetic rubber water stop placed in the form at the construction joint which occurs between pours or placement of concrete. Concrete placement must be controlled throughout the construction process by providing joints, bulkheads, stops, and key ways. These devices allow for a calculated and controlled placement of concrete while maintaining the structural integrity of the reinforced cast in place concrete. The structural drawings and specifications dictate that additional steel reinforcing be installed at these joints, precluding any structural failures.
image 11: Anchor bolts.
This image shows a column bearing plate and anchor bolts, which were set by the concrete sub-contractor prior to the erection of steel. Also shown are sleeves through the foundation wall for future electrical conduit. Note the brick shelf and dowels at the top of the foundation wall.
image 12: The same view after steel columns and floor
structure have been installed.
This image shows the column set prior to placing concrete and encapsulating the column base within the foundation wall and slab structure (the corner column has not been set yet). Also note the steel composite deck is in place for the first floor of the superstructure. Note the grounding cable which was attached to the steel column by the electrical sub-contractor.
